There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, features 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that highlights many conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
