There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that features numerous comforts aside from the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
